Hesitate

Hesitate

A Poem by Raef C. Boylan

Tap, tap, tap

Be hospitable, little one;
respond warmly
to the polite, urgent knocking
of a stranger in need.
Be not cautious; lift the latch
from its catch and welcome
them into your life -
whatever they may reveal
themselves to be.

Tap, tap, tap

Now silence…

for nobody
warned the worms
they were the exception
to charity.

It is enough. More than enough to tide us over until you find another something. Somehow I can't help but link this with Poe's The Raven. Maybe it's the tapping. . .

And if Poe's writer found Nevermore and we find Worms. There really isn't much difference some days. I like it.
