Sally Jane

Sally Jane

A Poem by Rainbowco

See Sally Jane
Smile, Smile, Smile
See Sally Jane smile
Born into the Great American Family

See Sally Jane
Look past
Into eyes
 brown
And
DEAD
Long gone in the pain
Of being
Daddy’s little girl
Who keeps secrets
Tucked into
Places
Spaces,
Colored red
Like tawdry trinkets
Tossed into a broken
Ballerina jewelry box
Lid jammed
down
TIGHT
on
This Pandora’s Box
Of
Ugliness

See Sally Jane
Smile, Smile, Smile
See Sally Jane smile
Dead in the Great American Tragedy

I have always enjoyed any piece that refers to a smile that is not quite a smile. I believe we live in a world of plastic smiles. I enjoyed this work, sensing (or perhaps adding myself) a certain anger - that Sally Jane's smiles are not okay.
