The Best Way Out

The Best Way Out

A Poem by Raven Held

The Best Way Out

The ghost of a secret,

The whisper of a promise,

The shadow of a lie,

All a part

Of you now.

A flash of a tight-lipped

Smile,

A ribbon of doubt

Worming,

Squeezing too tightly

This mask is asphyxiating

Despite one too many tries.

You always knew

That the best way out

Is the best way inside.
