The Revival of the Phoenix

The Revival of the Phoenix

A Poem by Rawan Hdaib

The Revival of the Phoenix

Life is hope; unknown and far

Barren soul and lifeless core

Mortal heartbeat lies on shore

Deep silence; no beat, no sound.

No dawn for this endless night

Pitch-dark with no hopeful light

All the same; if wrong or right

All the dead; one state of mind.

Suddenly rose with someone

A bright light matches the sun

Shone over the horizon

Spread the light through that sand.

Passionate sailor just came

Escaped from memory’s storm

Guided by eternal dream

By that shore he chose to land.

He fell asleep, then woke up

Lost in that shore with no ship

Having nothing left but hope

Founded himself there detained.

While wondering in darkness

Found ashes of a phoenix

And sensed amid that chaos

That he was sent and destined.

He cast warmth into its cold

Gave life and soul to the dead

Granted everything he held

The phoenix had been revived.

The phoenix by the sailor

Became the hope creator

Lived in peace ever after

No matter what is the end.
