A Broken Heart

I’ve decided the worst feeling in the world is a broken heart

But not the kind you get from a boyfriend dumping you, or from not getting your dream job

I mean the kind of heartbreak that comes out of nowhere, the kind that takes a piece of your soul with it so you feel like you’re crumbling

And even though your mind is falling apart, your body is still intact; so now you have to put on your poker face and go out into the world

No matter how much you’re hurting inside, you plaster a fake smile on your face because it’s socially unacceptable to be struggling, because if you’re hurting so much that you lose yourself, you’re seen as weak and pathetic

And this forced façade hurts even more because the voice of reason in your mind is screaming for you to tell someone and take a few days off to grieve and heal

But you ignore that voice because the truth hurts, and you’re already hurting enough

Then you shut down, and you waste your life away being miserable and living as half dead

And then one day the pain consumes you, and that’s the end

And not only the heart that get's broken through break-up of a relationship but the heart that loses their other - can literally die of 'a broken heart' syndrome.
I would agree with your assessment- I have felt this pain. It was the worse than losing teeth, than being beaten up, than being in a car accident, than breaking a leg...

A broken heart is like a broken art. We are deep dying inside but still smiling from outside. Maybe that's how few learn this art very well. Thank god we poets can atleast express it so well :)
