Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice

Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice

A Poem by RayLynn

Sugar, spice, and everything nice, that’s what girls are supposed to be made of.

But most of us aren’t.

We’re made of acid, bile, and everything volatile.

Our heartaches kill us inside.

The first lost love turns our lungs to a crispy black and makes it hard to breathe.

Our minds are corrupted by a society whose only job is telling us that we aren’t pretty enough or smart enough or feminine enough.

Our heart hardens with every lie we’re told and every disappointment we face due to circumstances.

Once upon a time, we were indeed made of sugar, spice, and everything nice, but life has forsaken us.

Now we stand alone, cold and bitter, turning a shoulder to the world.
