Personal Responsibility

Personal Responsibility

A Poem by Matthew Webb

I never had a violent thought, from any movie, game, or book that I bought / because of my upbringing, and how I was taught / that I'm solely responsible for all that I've wrought, and I do me / I don't blame the news or the M-T-V / when I f**k up, It's my own fault / blaming other s**t, would mean I ain't worth my salt / and I don't have the gall, to point at someone else when I drop the ball / Even though she got hooked, on percs, vics, and the rest in the book / before the deep end came, she taught me always leap before I look/ Always be responsible, always be respectable / never make excuses, and don't be detestable / don't take the easy road, that path is worn down / lift the heavy load, so when it's sink or swim, you don't drown / and don't frown, we all have pain / I ain't better than anyone, we're all built the same / all with two eyes, a mouth, a brain / how we use it defines where we lay, at the end of the day / when the eyes go to rest, and heads bow to pray / and what do we say? / which God or no God, we all make our choices / we all choose to listen to one of several voices / So think before you act, sometimes I react, to quickly / and say the wrong thing, I ask you forgive me / I am just a human, flawed at the core, but you'll never see me knocking down a door / For hatred, or vengeance, those things I abhor / So I can keep my head high, even though it's  a chore / in a world where there's no personal responsibility anymore /

About
I've been away for a few years. I'm back, and adding a s**t load of new work all at one time. Most of what I write is the equivalent of freestyle rhyme or rap. As of now there is no option for that, .. more..
