korean war memorial at midnight

korean war memorial at midnight

A Poem by J. Randall Dodd

they hover.  shifting, silvered spectres

bestriding soft, cotton-footed low pressures.

cool air mists,

dew drop reminders;

at dusky eve they linger,

ever-present.  shameful histories,

bronzed warrior shadows within white.

civilians reverently saunter by,

unknowing of their country's blight.

Author's Note

J. Randall Dodd
first, let me say that i am in no way against korean war veterans. i am a veteran myself, though much too young to have been in korea. i simply disagree with the reasons for going and the way in which it was handled (much like many feel on vietnam, iraq, etc.). this is simply a slight diatribe on that feeling, and the description of the korean war memorial in d.c. as the fog rolls in from the tidal basin at night. enjoy.

Don't defend yourself! The words speak for themselves, and readers will believe what they want anyway. Just keep singing. . .
