The Truth About Love

The Truth About Love

A Poem by Heather Phelps

Neglect and uselessness,
Forgotten faces and names,
Their all bearing down on me,
As I turn around.
I changed my life for you,
But you just leave,
Like the geese do,
In the winter.
I lived through hell,
I walked on water,
I sat on fire,
All for you,
But you didn't see.
You couldn't see,
How much you meant to me,
You couldn't sense,
That the smoke was dense,
The cloud growing bigger,
The space growing smaller,
The tears of yesterday,
Returned again today.
The laughter and smiles,
The fun and silliness,
All gone and missed,
All needed to make me exist.

Wow, you felt like you existed while doing all these things for this person. Yet, you felt underappreciated. This is quite a thorough and sad write. True emotions! Good job!
