Solemn oath of unity

Solemn oath of unity

A Poem by Rémi Ruben

REFRAIN:

I wanna make a solemn oath of unity

You might think I’m a poof, whether dumb, thick or hairy

I wish to cherish every Tom, Dick, and Harry!

You might as well think I’m a butch, whether chatty,

Or bony, I wanna love Bonnie and Cathy

By the same token, one outspoken family

What keeps us, poles apart from our next of kin?

The books we read or the people we listen to?

Aren’t we basically of the same constitution?

Two lips to be kissed, two eyelids under which to hide

In the name of democracy, let’s all unite!

Does this timeworn Chaplin’s speech ring a bell to you?

What has happened since then, why can’t we just do it?

REFRAIN

A rather impossible mission to achieve

If you wanna ask me or ask yourself frankly

Eat bio, vote green, do yoga or meditate

Are not enough, unless we change our family

Way of life, which breeds most of us unsatisfied

Why should I love my kids more than those of others?

Are my gametes anyhow superior to yours?

REFRAIN

What if we were all breastfed by different mummies?

Beloved by all men, for we could be the offspring,

The progenies of any holy genitor

What would still impede us from loving one and all?

Do you think we’d still have fences, frontiers at all?

The only religion we’d have is love everyone

No more playing with oneself, no more left-behinds

REFRAIN
