LOST LANGUAGES

LOST LANGUAGES

A Poem by Rene Velez

Words to convey
or academics say
Oh words do play,
words they weigh
Like colorful petals
in a lovely bouquet
Unsettled, they do not stay

Once created
And forever gone
Surviving descendants
By blood and brawn

Leagues of man,
Lost divisions of land
Whispers in oblivion
By wind and dead heirs
Twisting tongues
in daily affairs

For rest of breath
exhaling dialects
Remnants of ancient times
Linguistics of interdependent
Hands of a mime

Yes they are dead
Due to mutations
To modern formations
Lost in translations

Spin the heritage wheel
Savages or adopted ideals
Voices of a nation
bishops and kingdom seals
royals draped in bandages
letters written in lost languages

Great point and the rhyming is very good with a quick and punchy patter that lends well to the poem. Loved it.

I like these thought collected here.
The meaning of words have changed throughout our history. It makes me think... if our words are thoughts and the words have changed, our way of thinking have as well.
How far off course have we gone? If we have gone off course at all.

Getting off track. Good write Mr. Velez

Technology is changing language as we know it. A lot of kids can't read a book but know what "lol" means which is kind of scary. This poem is layered I felt the necessity of keeping ancient spoken and written languages alive as well as the observation that our speech and writing is constantly changing
