THE SHORTEST STRAW

THE SHORTEST STRAW

A Poem by Rene Velez

feeding ego's while poets do ignore
I have made my choice and grabbed the shortest straw
a sign of what is in store for me in this vacant poetry

blow the whistle of absolution
as I walk the streets abundant in misery,
I am lost in solutions, my thoughts in contribution
I connect the lines spiritually

convenient in no regrets, letters can not swim
I relinquish and give in dripping of sin
wipe me dry with the light from within
soul greeting wind so my ink can begin

blessed, I am caught in the whirlwind
and the strife, that is life

Coincidentally, this is the title of a Metallica song. And I could see Metallica doing something like this: pessimistic, a little dark. This is well-written. You got your message across without beating around the bush, which is what a lot writers do sometimes. A nice change of pace.

I agree with your poem. Hard to see the logic in a life sometime. I like the final answer.
"blessed, I am caught in the whirlwind...
that is life"
Thank you for the excellent poem.

It pinches, binds, flows, hastens, pokes, strokes, winds, slams, finds, twists, covets, vents, pours....you get the idea. I loved this concept and absolutely agree with the feeling it produces. Great write.
