Why We do It

Why We do It

A Poem by Kenny Bellamy

It's because we all want to feel good,
this charade, standing at counters for pay
that we struggle to do what we should.

And all the w****s and the bartenders could
not help but to down us in their lush sway.
I'ts because we all want to feel good

that good men will fail, and children would
fail to learn the lessons of yesterday
That we struggle to do what we should.

There has got to be more to this manhood.
There has got to be some other way.
It's because we all want to feel good.

Who put this brain inside my skull could
have--must have concluded it okay,
that we struggle to do what we should.

And all of this life's idiotic weight
could not breech forward and callously say:
It's because we all want to feel good
that we struggle to do what we should.
