Love's Lullaby

Love's Lullaby

A Poem by Tommy Naclerio

I never forget a yellow a raincoat

just as one doesn’t forget a past love,

don’t forget what I am made of

hush my daughter, be gentle with my epitaph

sleep tight against mom’s sweet laugh

the fly did not move when the cup came

expected it to go, but death was just the same

now maybe you’re asleep,

maybe you have given in?

Cassandra, you’re home here

dream of angels and of sin

could the bug know there’s nothing to fear?

was it right to let her crush you,

the fly accepted his death

I couldn’t imagine my daughter wanting to

goodnight Cassandra,

while you watch skies, I look to deep savannahs
