Bows and Ribbons

Bows and Ribbons

A Poem by Jerome F Knox III pseudonym Nefarious J. Dorsey
"

Freeverse

"
Her soul has been
Compartmentalized
Boxes of various
Sizes
Shapes and depths
Scattered over
Every inch of her
Some opened
Some torn
Others have broken
Down to be trashed
Or to be recycled
So the process
Of hope could
Be renewed
Still she strolls
Downtown looking
Up and down
Main street
Looking for the
Perfect
Bows and ribbons
To wrap her
Packages in
Peeking in the
UPS store
Looking for more
But she is unsure
If they have enough
Material for what
She needs
Still her soul bleeds
Cause she knows
That her pain
Still overflows
Cause some of
These boxes in
Her soul will never
Know or show
The beauty of
Ribbons and bows
Never to experience
Closure
Cause the exposure
To rain
Never cleanses
Her pain
Forever exposed
To the elements
It makes no sense
That her conscious
Is never clear
Because there
Is no masking tape
Near
Is it now clear
That there are not
Enough
Bows and Ribbons
Here
To wrapped up all of
Her fears

Love the line "cause the exposure to rain never cleanses her pain". For some reason it speaks to me. I do think that we expect closure to make the pain go away, but I know it really doesn't. But I love the metaphor of the ribbons and bows. Especially because we try to learn and dress up the painful experiences in life. Beautiful work.

without closure, there is no perfectly wrapped package whether it is joy or pain.
and bows and ribbons or masking tape cannot contain the heart that fears...
really nicely done metaphor.

Even if she were
to wear
a dress, a suit,
sandals or high boots,
a hundred inches cloak,
She would still
require,
desire,
to be wrapped up
in those
ribbons and bows....

My tribute poem to this exceptional piece! Excellent poem! :) well done...
