Mearra Star Reynolds

A Poem by Mearra Reynolds
"

Just a name poem that I was kind of proud of when I wrote. Not quite sure how I feel about it anymore, though.

"

Mearra Star Reynolds

My name is Mearra -- Me-Are-Uh

“Mearra? Very unique!” they say

as my name slowly slips from their minds.

My face grows red when substitutes call roll.

“Meera? Reynolds?” they ask,

Their loud voice parades the butchered name around the room.

“Here,” I mutter, raising a shaky hand and

Covering my face with my other.

Mearra. It should fill the mouth and coat the tongue,

Like butter mixed with sugar and fluffed like meringue.

Mearra. The name of a girl forged in fire,

With a soul shrouded in flames.

Mearra. With strong opinions

And unwavering morals.

Mearra. A mind that runs free with creativity

That craves bright colors and bold words.

Mearra. A heart fueled by ambition,

Determined to never limit itself.

Mearra. A name that is unique.

A name to be remembered.
