Dolly

Dolly

A Poem by Rita
"

This poem was inspired by A Doll's House By Henrik Ibsen

"

She sits with an idle brain,
That comforts her in troubled times,
And tells her to smile happily,
Such a harmless little lie.

Harmless to a careless world,
That turns without a thought,
Rids its mind of burden,
And hates a heavy heart.

She turns to every corner,
With a silent desperate plea,
Hoping for a pair of open arms,
In which she can finally weep.

Instead she finds manequins,
With blinkless empty eyes,
Hollow and emotionless,
Arms dangling by their sides.

She goes mad in her little doll house,
Where not a thing is felt,
And behind every printed smile,
Is an emotion being held.

Haven't read A Doll's House, but this was lovely.

Instead she finds manequins,
With blinkless empty eyes,
Hollow and emotionless,
Arms dangling by their sides.

She goes mad in her little doll house,
Where not a thing is felt,
And behind every printed smile,
Is an emotion being held.

Definitely the strongest lines of the poem in here.^^

Dolls eh?

As I child I used to play with dolls

Then closure

Now it's cool to play with dolls again

"And behind every printed smile,"

Excellent line

Repression of emotion is very cleverly woven and portrayed in this wonderful poem. I liked the imagery
conjured up with the image of mannequins "with arms dangling by their sides" and "'Hollow and emotionless" you get such a sense their worthlessness for this need to express.

"And behind every printed smile,
Is an emotion being held"

Were such great lines to close this poem. Nice tight writing and good rhythm further enhance this poem's enjoyable quality.

A well done description of being devoid of all emotion.
