FOREIGN LAND

FOREIGN LAND

A Poem by SJ Mullins
"

The foreign land of being mentally ill.

"
A secret that
had long been kept
Soon got so bad,
I knew I needed help.
So many days,
I’ve felt so enraged;
Is this how animals feel
when they’re caged?
These days I wonder
just who I am,
Because there are days
I don’t give a damn.
Through all the seasons,
Roaming this foreign land;
Blowing up for reasons
I cannot understand.
Hormone deficiencies--
forever changed,
Feeling like a monster
who’s terribly deranged.
I’ve traveled this bad land
and others have too.
How did I wind up here?
I haven’t a clue!
It takes a lot of strength
to face it head on
After I sought help,
I made my secret known
To let other women know
they’re not traveling alone.
