Light Years

Light Years

A Poem by Rogue
"

miss you Jean-Pierre

"
Oh Rocket Man we've come so far
Strapped right on in your fancy car
We left the moon by way of stars
Treated them all like cosmic bars

Perched on the stool to my left
one of those alien things
Keeps trying to impress me
with all of his Saturn rings
Feelers all over my a*s
Now you know that just ain't right
Once again we'll be thrown out
'cause there's gonna be a fight

Oh Rocket Man we're on our way
Where we'll end up no-one can say
Just traveling on come what may
Children set loose to run and play

I write these memories down
of the times that we once knew
Imaginations ran wild
Thoughts combined that changed and grew
On Mars I sit and listen
for the old, familiar sound
Of those turbo twin engines
telling me you're still around

Oh Rocket man what fun we had
You know I don't mean to be bad
Souped up drawing on a sketch pad
With parts overblown just a tad

No matter how much we spread out. No matter how much technology improves our lives and lets us do things hitherto undreamed of; you still get some slob with feelers trying for a quick grope.
Humour with pathos. This I like.

Hey, I really like this poem. It's really poignant and has a lot of depth to it. Well done :)

Thank you for the kind words here. :)
rocket man suggests fierce intensity and speed...kinda interesting to ponder...a bar is no place to take a date unless you are both very comfortable with people and their drunken behavior....sometimes things get out of hand. clever write.

Thank you, Quinn. Although in this case, "Rocket Man" and I are just good friends. :)

It's all about being the "one"
In "oneness" we find clarity.

True , true , true...:)
"Oh Rocket Man we've come so far

The beginning stanza is out of this world perhaps from Venus and the whole poem landed on Mars. An elegant write...:)
By the way I like the title too ...:)
