"When I Leave and Take The Wind"

"When I Leave and Take The Wind"

A Poem by Ron Cole

When I leave and take the wind

and mist shrouds the Island's shore,

my journey starts but longing begins

as I am leaving you once more.

When the Trade Winds fill my vessel's sail

and push my ship towards war,

my thoughts will fondly return to you

whom I will love forevermore.

You have nursed my wounds and borne my sons,

and kept my cares at bay.

It's almost more than I can bear

just to be away.

Through shot and shell I will not fear

for I will see your face.

I'll see your smile and lovingly

remember your embrace.

And when our mission comes to end,

and our ship's bow turns towards home,

my heart will race before the ship,

with the Dolphins and the foam.

And when our Island comes in view,

my real life will begin,

back in your arms until again,

I must leave and take the wind.

yes yes yesssssss

this is an older one; does that mean i may have read it before? because it feels familiar to me.

i love it. i think yours is one of the few rhyming styles i really appreciate - you never force your rhymes; they always sound so lovely. or at least, you accomplish this wonderfully here with this piece. :)

"You have nursed my wounds and borne my sons,

and kept my cares at bay.

It's almost more than I can bear

just to be away."

that was one of my favorites - the rhyme scheme was perfect. and again, the last verse was enchanting, as well. hmmm yes yes :) yum yum.

"i shall leave and take the wind"?

how gorgeous is THAT?!?!!?

Ron, this is absolutely beautiful..It is going to favorites for sure..It is a real tribute to your wife for ..I love the combining of the trade winds and a motorized ship going across the water..Hate to think it is taking anyone to war though...Thanks for writing such a beautiful piece..God bless Valentine
