What happened that night?

What happened that night?

A Poem by Roni

What happened that night?

We may never identify.

Did you choose to end the years of abuse?

On your terms

Were you finally in control

Did he choose to do what he had threatened so many times?

Did he have the last say to how you would die?

Control is a funny thing

Too much can drive a man insane

Make him yearn for more

Is that what happened

He took control one last time

Love is so hard to understand

It can make you happy or sad

Love is a blessing or sometimes a curse

Love is what everybody hopes for

At least a good love

Not a toxic love that can leave you lonely

Love was the problem for it is blind

Money so many people covet

It makes the world go round

The only problem with money is that it cannot take away abuse, heartbreak, or loneliness.

It gives you material things but are those really worth it.

I used to envy so much of what you had

I hear you felt the same way about the things I have

Isn’t it funny how the world works

I do not understand why you would envy the little things I had

Now I see the little things are what makes life worth living.

You took a vow and stood by it through thick and thin

When is that vow no longer relevant

When is enough enough

I wish I understood

How you felt

Your reasoning

We may never know what happened that night

But even if we get answers

They will not bring you back

Nothing else matters

You leaving us is so permanent

Still so unreal
