Run

Run

A Poem by Rowena Slade

Run

Don't look back.

Just keep going.

Get away from people.

Get away from life.

Maybe you'll be safe.

Maybe you'll be happy.

Stay isolated.

That way

You can't hurt people.

That way

They can't hurt you.

Stay silent,

Or they'll find you.

Shhh...

Honey,

Don't worry.

They can't reach you here.

Shut your eyes.

Don't watch them burn,

You're too young for that.

Cover your ears.

You can't hear their screams,

You're too innocent for that.

Close your mouth.

Don't call out to them,

You can't help them.

Now open your eyes,

Uncover your ears.

You can talk now.

They're all dead.

They're gone.

You don't need

To run any more.

You're safe.

Oh no...

Don't cry.

I did this for you.

To keep you from harm.

You hate me now.

I have no purpose left.

It's my turn to run.

I'll run

Into the arms of death.

Into the darkness.

Beyond your reach.

So I don't hurt you.

So you don't hurt me.

Goodbye...
