Ant

Ant

A Poem by Rudi J.P. Lejaeghere
"

An ant on the move does more than a dozing ox. Lao Tzu

"

I burrow and I dig

direct my attention to the line

that runs to the sweet,

sweet honey

the call of the queen

is guiding me,

my thread, my wire

the point where I always start

it’s the tickling

the red fire

that seduces me

I’m an ant

and will learn to fly

when the time has come

after a shower

when the puddle

mirrors the rain

the leaf

that I spin together

a nest to cradle.

The relationships towards the insect world. Its is always such an intriguing concept. Living in colonies which are highly organized. The drones the workers and the soldiers all obeying the call of the queen or queens depending on size. If I wouldnt know better it could stand as a metaphor for female supremacy. The writing then takes a twist to reminds us of the constant changing which in natures ocurs organically or sometimes known as metamorphosis.

Here it is then to the inherent wisdom in Nature...

Thank you!

I expect ants will be around long after mankind is little more than a memory. Such highly organised and industrious little creatures; each in their place and each doing what they must. Lots to admire in ants.

Very much enjoyed this. Beccy

Thank you very much, Beccy, glad you enjoyed it. :) Rudi
I agree with Rene about female supremacy. Perhaps not supremacy, but almost, like, yeah, supremacy, I guess. The second stanza reminded me of a Richard Pryor bit that dealt with how much he loved women (I'm paraphrasing...heavily) I really like how you chose to use the word "wire" especially butted up against "thread." It caused me to think about birth as well, and the inevitability of it.

Ow this one is Fabulous work !. I really enjoyed your theme and certainly the " Ant" reminds me of "hard work" . This tiny creature really teaches us how to live for freedom and happiness and again how to earn success beyond many difficulties . Beautiful write Rudi !

The poem is wonderful Rudi; would be shocked if it was not! Great description; those ants are some tough cookies! Since we live in the woods, I don't bother them even around the base of trees; My microbiology teacher said once, the only way to kill them (fire ants here mighty bite) is to dig them up in the winter below freezing. Great writing. I've watched them here, their interesting. Anyway, great poem.

the ant like humans, directing its efforts toward the sweetness of life...we work towards that every day, and spin together our lives....love the allegory i see here in this piece. Tightly spun together poem.

An interesting perspective, Rudi, the metaphor between insect and the beaten path. The queen beckons and I shall seek her out all my days, but I will not rush, someday I will learn to fly, till then slow and steady.
