Losing the Lonely

Losing the Lonely

A Poem by Rusty95
"

An experimental poem.

"
I can fly as high as the moon at night
Or swim in the depths of hell,
But this feeling of utter loneliness
Clings to me like a bad smell.

I surround myself with people I trust
Who like me have lost themselves,
Repeating the same jokes time and again,
And laughing like we can’t tell.

I’ve been heartbroken three times already,
I drink to forget the past,
So why do I lament the good old days?
Regretting how fast they passed.

Living a life of pure repetition
In a world I’ll never grasp,
As I realise days have turned to years,
That joy has become a farce.

I try to live a life of distractions,
But end up thinking of you.
And even when life doesn’t seem worth it,
The thought of you helps me through.

For years I have kept this love to myself,
But I know you’ve kept some too.
I’ve tried to be as honest as I can,
Now the rest is up to you.
