Why I Try

Why I Try

A Poem by Spencer Barker

I couldn't say for certain,
Nay.
I know with certainty that I drink for nights that challenge my sanity.
Divine apprehension of belonging,
Certain damnation of peace in the moment.
Wine won't cure this,
But longitudinal relief will.
An apparatus of chiefly evil thoughts,
Not what you think,
Self-perception can always alter, mutate,
A beast of its own creation.
Advice:
Keep the beast at bay.
