SONG: Why I Was Afraid

SONG: Why I Was Afraid

A Story by JC Pire

Come on, come on bring sun to the weather

I know in time i'll treat you all better

There's a part of me knows I should do as I'm told

I couldn't find diamonds, so I'll stick with gold

I pushed myself in so I couldn't get out

I always wanted to leave, but I wasn't allowed

He's across the river and he's got blue eyes

It's such a shame he greets me with goodbyes

Let me see if I can change

Let me see if I can change

'cos when the devil makes home he never leaves

And he's made quite a mess outta me

Then bruised as I am, I'll come from the shade

To see all the reasons why I was afraid

Haiti, I never loved you before

Inside I know, I could do more

But I'm busy right now, still jumping at shadows

It took just 'till now to realise I never had'em

This isn't a love song, I'm no balladeer

Most of the time I'm just being sincere

Sincerity's blunt and it's rough round the edges

They've just started the race, but I've finished already

Let me see if I can change

Let me see if I can change

'cos when the devil makes home he never leaves

And he's made quite a mess outta me

I'm glad by now I've got the tricks of the trade

But never the reasons why I was afraid

I've forgotten the sound of my heart breaking

It took me a while, but I got over Jacey

She's doing just fine with the man of her dreams

It's a pity back then, it wasn't me

I've abandoned the rulebook on living my life

It's missing the chapters that makes it alright

The fine print keeps saying "Ellie, grow up"

But I'm waiting for a miracle that should show up

Let me see if I can change

Let me see if I can change

'cos when the devil makes home he never leaves

And he's made quite a mess outta me

I've got a feeling today's the today

That I find the reasons why I was afraid

If I could turn back the years

I think i'd watch all the times that I revere

But to balance it out I'd watch me fall

It reminds me that I'm not perfect at all

Mama said there's not enough shine on the silver

I ruined my ship so that I could rebuild her

I don't know why I was scared, well neither did I

I wasn't afraid, I was just shy

Let me see if I can change

Let me see if I can change

'cos when the devil makes home he never leaves

And he's made quite a mess outta me

I hope there's a reason for trying to stay

Just to find out I was never afraid
