Serene Ending

Serene Ending

A Poem by Baylin Snow

Alone on a beach

the warm sands smooth--every grain

as soft as silk

One dune overlooks the harsh scene

Waves, increasing in size

crashing one on top of another

The wind speeds

slamming into the body of a young woman

so hard it stings

It doesnt phase her.

It doesnt alter her mission.

Dragging her feet,

trails left in the sand,

she makes her way to the highest cliff

looking as if in a trance.

The scene she see's is serene

Gracefully prancing to the edge

she collapses to a sitting position

feet limply dangling over the thin ending of land.

Roars of thunder fill the air

as bolts of lightening light up the sky

Looking up at the heavy drops falling from the

dark, uninviting clouds

she knows she isnt ready to leave

this cruel, harsh world

moving quickly, carefully

she pushes herself to a standing position

feeling the cliff crumbling beneath her feet

thoughts reappear

options appear

decisions must be made

A tear falls just as the rain around her

onto the weak cliff

she stands idle.

Breaking underneath her,

the sandy cliff collapses into the water,

pulling the young woman with it,

80 feet down.

No mercy.
