Mental Sanctuary (Part 2)

Mental Sanctuary (Part 2)

A Poem by Baylin Snow

Turning the corner onto my block

talk of poetry crosses our lips

Unable to grasp the keys from my pocket

I press the button sending a loud ring through the house

the door opens, Mom looking confused

Walking in with authority, we remove our Converse

completely drenched from the rain,

we drip through the house all the way

to my bedroom

Comfortable, dry clothes are a must

while we continue to talk on my bed

I always keep composure

unable to express

thoughts; true emotions

She explains what she observes about my life --

how she watches everyone pile everything

on to my shoulders

filling my mind with their problems

leaving no room for me

in my mind or theirs

As I listen to her

my eyes burn with tears

someone took enough time to notice

She tells me to come over to her

hugging mr

I completely break down,

my crying slows,

we let go but keep our arms around each other

tears come and go until

they transform into laughs

Forever i'll be here for her

Holding her until her crying slows.

Hugging her for no reason.

As we sit in only candlelight,

drinking mock martinis,

having date night.

I know she is the only one keeping me going.

She is my sanctuary.
