Aging

Aging

A Poem by shawnt5604

riding down that lonesome highway
remembering the days that are through
sun sets across the horizen
thinking of the man he once knew

days tumble one after another
mind just going through the motions
a life loosing inspiration
as if a tear dropping amongst oceans
his voice is never heard

straining vocal cords
preaching every last word
across empty pews
he weeps

never stopping to understand
how the times changed so fast
his failing comprehension
still keeps
the vibrant part of his soul
locked inside

not for one moment being able to see
he's the same person he always was
exactly what he always wanted to be

as the true man inside
never changed
only his materialistic perceptions
never stayed the same

and only until he realizes
he's the one who hasn't let his life unfold
his strenuous claims at blame
will continue to seem untold

and miles stretch longer
hesitating to open his eyes
missing out on this road leading to
the most beautiful skies
