Incredulity

Incredulity

A Poem by SagerKS

I believe in unicorns, fairies and hobbits,

In a mystical Xanadu;

That pearls in raw oysters are plentiful

Though far between and few.

In honorable politicians,

Lady Luck and Father Time;

In creation and evolution

And a store that sells things for a dime.

I purchase my lottery tickets

On a fortune cookie’s advice

And I’m always convinced that I’ll win it "

I deserve it because I’m so nice.

I believe in the world there’s The Perfect Man

And in happily-ever-afters;

That in Top Secret Area 51

There are aliens stacked to the rafters.

I believe Friday 13th is unlucky,

That paupers can turn into kinds "

Oftentimes before breakfast

I believe a dozen impossible things!

But one thing I refuse to believe in

Though universally accepted as true,

That nobody bothers to question

And certainly nothing that’s new…

Less real than a fire-breathing dragon

More fantastic than pie in the sky

Is the truly unthinkable notion

That one day I may actually die.
