Freedom

Freedom

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

that can last

"
Freedom becomes a popular myth
sans forces in control
Without those necessary forces
anarchy will take its toll

The concept is not new
we live with it all of our days
Happy and industrious
enjoying our form of freedom
controlled in so many ways

Laws, police and an army
so opposed by dangerous men
Gives peace to believing multitudes
many millions times ten

Most forms of society
that share the good things they do
Might escape some of the hazards
if they believe that this is true

Trying to covert an anarchy
a tardy policy doomed to fail
Ending with much worse control
a most unhappy tale

By building a strong  society
and sharing some of the wealth
More of the unhappy multitudes
can see a better way to health

Beware of those who cry socialism
they really enjoy worse control
With their hands in the till
they operate without a soul

As societies get larger and larger
the future becomes more bleak
The task is then more difficult
even as we speak
