Laugh

Laugh

A Poem by Sam Ward

Hollow bodies walk these streets,
Mindless zombies, shuffling feet.
The buildings crumble, trees decayed.
Broken grounds where we once played.
The monotonous movement of citizens left,
Forced to clean this pitiful mess.

I listen for the quiet hum
Of rebellion:
Slowly begun.
Someone feels, someone thinks.
Someone's been lifted from this brink.

The music plays.
Louder.
Stronger.
Keeps me holding on still longer.
The beat of my heart
Caught the pulse of the base.
From my spot down below,
I lift up my face.

The new sun has risen,
A dawn of new life.
Destroy the oppression,
Now we have the knife.
