Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!

Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!

A Poem by Sandina
"

A day in the life of a substitute teacher.

"

The computer called,
As I am always on call
'We have a job for you
Enter your secret code
Then we will tell you.'

Received the call at seven
School starts at eight
Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!
Substitutes shouldn't be late.

Take my teeth out of the cup
Rinse them off
Put them in my mouth
Smile real big.

Don't forget the underarm deodorant
Don't want to arrive at the den
Smelling like dinner again
If I did the lions would have a fit.

Apply my make-up
Be quick.
Fix my Afro Thunder hair
My students will care.

Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!
Got to get out of here
Already I am an hour late
This is worse than a blind date.

Seventeen miles to work
It's a straight shot
Take the backroads
Drive like a bat out of 'you know where.'
I'll make it with no time to spare.

Ten miles in
Seven miles out
A pop -- A sputter -- A groan
Oh No!
All dressed up and nowhere to go.

Call work,
Talk to a real live person too.
'We're waiting! Where are you?'
Stuck in my truck off highway 132.

Call a substitute to substitute for me today.
As Johnny Toetruck is standing in my way.

Author's Note

Sandina
I wrote this poem today for a challenge contest over at Starlite Cafe.com. It needed to be about going to work, and it needed to address all five senses. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed creating it. Peace and long life.

I did enjoy this. I hope you have more or are thinking of writing a story on the same subject perhaps. Thanks.
