Cobra

Cobra

A Poem by Alexandria Reece
"

y'know... kickin' around informal thoughts and labeling it poetry

"
Jazz-laden, smokey, all alone,
I lean against the wall,
Dreaming of none-but-you,
In all the world,
No matter where I took to,
How could I forget?
I shake my gin,
Ice rattlin' 'gainst the glass,
Take it in to beg my heart,
'Stop prodding, let it be',
I bite my lip,
     Cobra in a sealed box,
Breathing in the company,
Notes enslave the keys,
I draw them in with ease,
The saxophone relates to me,
His loneness bitter,
My smirk turns to a frown,
As I try to wash you down,
Lights flicker as I shut my eyes,
And your heart's here with me.

Jazz, gin, bitterness...welcome to my world. Oh, except replace Jazz with speed metal and you're there. *wink* I like your style. The idea of taking in the gin to quiet the heart; so familiar to so many of us (I am certain...we creative types like a little bevvie now, don't we?) And again, the image of washing him down. I am mainly a novelist, but I appreciate good poetry, and this, absolutely, is good poetry.

Now I see you as more of a blues girl than a jazz girl. Still jazz or not, you are like my favourite living poet! :) may the light in your heart always flicker!

May your breath e'er be the wind on my flame.
So hazy, feels like the speakeasy across the river when it is wet, while the folks in the dry city remain parched.

Wow! Thank you so much!! It means a lot, especially if it's not usually what you're into! :D
The saxophone does have a bitter ring of isolation to it's melody, doesn't it? Keen observation. I love the setting you've laid out here, I wrote one once in a similar place. The placid thoughts you've splashed onto your page are enlightening and breathy, sensual and poignant. Very sweetly done, miss poet. As always, I found this to be enthralling and magnificent.

This is an excellent work, Alexandria. I've been in a lot of low lit dives where the only way you could find your way was to listen to where the music was coming from (The stage) and where the ice chinked. The bar.)
You made me feel it all. Nice write.
Poetry? I would absolutely call it poetry... and music to my ears.

Have you been reading my diary? :) You are a woman after my own heart, Alexandria. How I love those smoke filled bars, a cool glass of Gin, and jazz playing somewhere in the distance. You know, kicking around informal thoughts and labeling it poetry is pretty much my bread and butter. I don't know what is regarded as "poetry" these days because my soul is still stuck in the last century, but this, my friend, is pure magic to me. Obviously, it speaks to me and I adore it. I think I will move it into my vault so I can read it one of those smoke filled nights.
