It's always been

just me on my own

I'd listen to them all

as they'd  whine and groan

about not having the latest thing

 

I never understood

why there was always something to complain about

I hated it so much

I hated to feel thier pain

 

It's always been me

who had to understand

had to see

had to do without

so they would be happy

 

now I don't mind as much

and though from time to time

I long to feel your touch

I'd give them all that they ever wanted

If only they'd ask

 

I've always had to climb back to my feet

and keep going
