You

You

A Poem by Jeannette Ford

You always told me
Not to look back
And don't turn around.
But I long to see you
And you stayed in my past.
So I glance real quickly
And all the feelings come back.
I remember the happiness and joy
But most of all the pain and regret.
I can still see your smile
Hear your musical laugh.
But I know it is lost
Because it is all in the past.
I wish you would have followed
So I would not feel so alone.
But it was your choice
And one that I could not change.
I wish you were with me
To help erase the pain.
But that is a dream
And it cannot come true.
