Asylum Eyes

Asylum Eyes

A Poem by Sazaku
"

"
Have you ever stared overlong in a mirror
and tried to decide which side you're on?
Is it your fault the glass is newly cracked
or are the cracks your flaws staring back?
These dreary thoughts I often linger upon,
as dreamer slowly dissolves into deceiver.

Trust in me nothing you can't afford to lose,
I'd rather not defile your grand design.
Never once underestimate my ability to destroy
every last thing that brings you joy.
You'll find it's something of a gift of mine
to squeeze so tight your heart will bruise.

Confidence is ever a gossamer phrase,
meaningless unless you misplace its grace.
Once the edges come to fray,
beneath the clouds shall you waste away.
Bereft the bounty of the Sun's embrace,
I've come to count on dreary weather delays.

So I feel I must duly apologize,
for dragging you down this serpentine street;
if ever I'm to escape this melancholy maze,
I'm certain the map hides within your gaze.
On my own, the path lies incomplete...
but do I even belong in your asylum eyes?
