Winter.

Winter.

A Poem by Bryan Sefton
"

Written as I watched my wife reading.

"
There is little in your face that echo of the past
There is nothing left on mine that was built to last
There flickers, though occasionally,
Whispers of a memory
That will not go away

Sometimes as you speak, your youth demands a say
Your maidens voice comes rising from another day
Saying ' I am as I once was
Risen from the eternal scource
Though I know I cannot stay'

Sometimes when I hold your hand the skin's so soft, I think
I feel its youth if but for the duration of a blink
And it is held by a younger me
He, the man I used to be
Who was so young, so gay

Spring and summer scream of youth, and of love of life
Of joy and laughter, songs of birds and honey and of hive
But autumn brings an end to this
And winter's cold can freeze a kiss
And colours turn to grey

For all is change, all is change. Nothing stays the same
Beauty lives and beauty dies and time is all to blame
But what is love defies the law
And ever keeps me tied in awe
Of you, and the month is May

Love this piece....and my feeling is that the youth we were once physically can remain inside of us forever.
I look in the mirror now at 71 and see that young lad of 7 running through the pastures in Vermont
back in the 50's....I know he is still in there, just a bit repressed by time.
quite good poetry,

I am loving your poetry Bryan. It just hits the spot on an emotional level and yet again you have done it here. Nothing stays the same and yet love can endure and grow stronger with time and age. A lovely poem.

A couple of years or so ago, I penned the line, 'she is the same as ever was, 'tis only time that's changed.'

It formed part of a poem I wrote one Sunday afternoon after watching my father sitting with my mother in their conservatory. She was potting up some geraniums she had grown from seedlings and dad was just sitting there watching her, a half smile on his face; and I thought to myself, almost five decades and still their love 'defies the law' as you so insightfully put it.

This is just lovely; it made me feel quite emotional and brought memories of that afternoon flooding back.
