A Childs Imagination.

A Childs Imagination.

A Poem by Bryan Sefton
"

Are all children's friends imaginary?

"
"A child's imagination, and what a one" she said
As a mother watched her little girl talk to a red rose bed
"Yes that it is" replied the father, shaking his head a while
"But one that's to be envied" he added with a smile
"For the things a child believes in most are the things that we say can't be
But only a fool says a thing is not where a wise man says it might be"

"Dear Mister Elf" they heard her say from behind the pink carnations
Her mother smiled "What a wonderful thing is a child's imagination
That turns a pool into a lake, a log into a fortress
But imagination builds the dream and it's dreams that build up progress
It's only a fool that sees the seed, the wise man sees the root
And with the root he sees the tree from which he gathers fruit"

They looked across and heard a scream come from the kneeling figure
"Why Mister Elf you're very small, but perhaps you'll grow bigger"
At this they laughed and the father hung onto the window ledge
But quickly ceased at what they saw upon the gardens edge
A little man all dressed in green, no more than one foot tall
And they who spoke of wise men stood amazed and very small

Each thinking he or she alone had seen the little man
Felt best to puzzle by ones self and answer if one can
But how is one to answer this funny situation?
It goes to show one cannot trust a child's imagination
For one to answer one might say "it definitely can't be
But if a wise man one must be then one must say "it might be."
