Sonya's Song

Sonya's Song

A Poem by Alice Oiseau
"

And when I look at the mess of things in my life, I find truth and comfort in only two of a thousand things: butterflies and this deeper, stronger, inexpressible love.

"

And as He said do not worry,

Butterflies walked me home.

How they fluttered around,

With every stroke of their agile wings,

I felt the gust against my brick wall.

One by one, the bricks begin to fall

Deep into the earth where they were born,

Then slowly they decay,

While a shy heart breathes trust

And trembles with hope and fear

These butterflies bring new lear,

Pay heed to them, I will,

I cherish the most satisfying sign,

For they came with the sun,

Bringing new promise,

We are sun-kissed,

Thrust into a world of insecurities and uncertainties,

But there is one thing, more than anything else,

That I know deeply:

Neither rose nor prose loves thee as much as I.

Author's Note

Alice Oiseau
Sun is a play on words, the literal and the symbolic.
Sonya is a character in the Russian novel Crime and Punishment. I identify with her quite well, hence why I selected her.

After reading this poem it just brought back feelings of an old love (well then again I'm young so what do i know about love). I do agree with Honeypot that it is gentle and beautiful. I just love how the love is so strong it breaks down those walls that most of us keep up inorder to protect our hearts. This actually inspires me try to break down those walls I build around myself and others for my own selfish needs. From what I've seen you are a brilliant writer.

Thanks for the explanation. I have to say I think this is one of my favorites. The simple joy, the deeper meaning. This says so much and is so feminine and I want to say fragile but gentle is more accurate. Great poetry.

The butterfly is a lovely image of tender, fragile delight and of the fears associated with the word... and you weave your thoughts into a charming picture of love's fears and love's assurance
