True Love

True Love

A Poem by Nobody.

When we made love

It was post-nuke Hiroshima

Two outlined human figures

Blackened onto the concrete

A Florida sidewalk

Where children used to play

Until one of them

Disappeared forever

Forever, in your blue eyes,

Is a ten minute trip

To the slaughterhouse

That’s how I know

This is true love

That’s how I know

I’ll never fully regain

My composure

This is the kind of love that Juliette Lewis and Woody Harrelson in that one movie. Or maybe it was Patricia Arquette and Christian Slater I'm thinking of.

The metaphors you use here suggest on the surface an iconoclastic passionate love. I may be wrong however but there is also a very subtle undercurrent of loss or even insecurity that makes these loves all the more true. Nicely done.

somewhere in here I sense innocence lost... what do you do when life changes? Love changes everything. Composure? lost that a long time ago.
This poem really brings emotive memories to the foreground. Another keeper.
