Duck & Cover

Duck & Cover

A Poem by Nobody.

Duck & Cover

eventually, the truth will drive us all mad.

tainted Eucharist, melting glaciers, vicious weather,
how self-named peace-loving souls can explode

like pretty landmines and destroy anything close,
an unpiloted plane that kills anything different,

the dull ache of pounded lies and nonstop gunfire,
until coldness travels the veins like a current.

it’s lousy dark humor, because every bloody

punch line has, or once had, a mother.

sickest tidbit is that, most of the time,

the collected data is too ugly to be

converted into poetry or song.

unexpressed anguish festers like infection,

swells feverish red, pale white, bruises blue,

and bursts in a mushroom cloud of pride and fear.
