Long Morning

Long Morning

A Poem by May Fosnes

I dreamed
this morning
you came to my bed.

I was naked, but you didn't care.

I rose to receive my kiss,
but then remembered, and held you in exchange.

I like to believe you came for me,
to tell me of your regret.
You probably came to absolve
your guilt.

Though, I'm already aware.
Your mind won't change.

I will say I slept in,
because it's been a damned long week
and I really need my rest.
Or, maybe I'll chalk it all up
by saying I'm depressed.

But really,
I just long for your embrace,
and I'll take whatever I get.

Thank you! I love when little stanzas end up resonating.
A so real and sad depiction of many encounters that are one way. The whole poem is well portrayed but the final line seemed somewhat short? Maybe 'I'll take whatever I get' or I'll take whatever you give' ?

Thank you for the recommendation! The ending of the poem is always the hardest part for me.
