Unrequited Love

It’s been…

…a lifetime it seems,

since you denied me LOVE and crushed my heart.

I opened my core up to you to fill…

…with your LOVE.

Instead you crumpled it with your words:

“We’re just friends.”

I was in LOVE,

in LOVE so deeply,

so completely,

with you.

My spirit was in need,

so in need of that heady elixir

we humans call LOVE.

I saw you as a never-ending bread basket

on which to feed MY need for LOVE.

I was starving,

parched,

aching,

begging

…for LOVE.

But…

Our hearts didn’t mesh,

our lips kissed, but our spirits flinched.

Our souls didn’t speak the same language of romance,

of quixotic LOVE.

And so…

When I spoke the words:

“I’m in LOVE with you, I LOVE you”

and they were not reflected in your eyes,

repeated by your lips,

and felt in your heart,

I died!

For three days after those words rolled from my lips,

only to meet an anguished sigh,

I died and cried,

and hurt…

uncontrollably!

I died and was reborn, only to die again

this repetitive pattern repeating

until my heart shut its doors lest the pain stop its very beating!

Nonetheless it broke,

it shattered,

it tattered,

it was rent to shreds…

and bled,

and shed red tears.

And. I. DIED!

But…

It was not your fault,

you did not reject me out of hate, or spite.

Just the opposite…

You were a friend you made it known, but no more,

no more,

evermore,

no more.

Better not to lead me on,

give me false hope of

togetherness everlasting.

And I…

But I…

Kept on LOVING you,

What else could I do?

I wanted you near,

needed your attention,

craved your touch,

longed for your smile,

signed when I entered you,

wept when I released inside you,

found peace in your arms when allowed.

It’s been…

…a lifetime it seems,

since you denied me LOVE and crushed my heart.

But…

I would do it all again,

Because LOVING you,

LOVING you,

LOVING you,

Dearest Jessica,

Was worth the painful price!
