To a Young Sister

To a Young Sister

A Poem by Share Roman
"

A poem for young girls that dream of adulthood as an escape.

"

Young sister,

I will not lie to you.

I honor your being too much

so, I will tell you the truth.

You need to know,

that there will be days

in your adulthood

when the sun will hide its stunning face

behind clouds of gloom and sadness

and sometimes you will pray

you will pray over and over again

for the sun to show its face

and during these times

 the clouds will laugh

and will hold it hostage

the second it attempts to make a move.

There will be days that are

filled with fragrances of regret and shame

the scents so strong

your body

your lungs

find them to be too unfamiliar

too dangerous

that you begin to choke…

I will not lie to you

you are as beautiful as you believe you are

and beauty, you will learn is a recipe

that you must create with your own ingredients

but try not to forget to add in self-belief and love

because those are certainly tasteful

Sister,

I want you to know that

things don’t necessarily get better

but you do learn how to adapt

and with practice and self-love

you learn that you are worth adapting for

and that you are worth what your heart dreams of

what your heart desires…

you will learn that the sun isn’t the only form of light

that you, in fact, can create your own sunshine

and those clouds

those clouds are really, quite temporary.
