The Curragh

The Curragh

A Poem by Sheah
"

This one's partly inspired by my old biology teacher <3

"
One day passing a field, I spied some horses,
gazing, galloping, neighing,
beautiful models,
perfectly bred,
to be sport stars and grab the world's attention,
children of their own,
designed to be the best.

And I left my friends awhile to say "Hello" to a pretty mule,

fair haired,

brown eyed,

nosing up to me responding back.

And like a child telling my mother "I like this one best" I was met with sighs and angry faces.

"That's a freak against nature" said my horse riding friend

"Shouldn't have been born, should be dead"

"Can't get marry and have its own children"
"Destined to be alone"
"Dog food" one friend laughed.

And looking into her eyes,my infertile friend reminded me of myself.
To turn away and be like all the rest?
Or be myself?
I wondered as I caressed her rugged hair.
