If only

If only

A Poem by Shelby Taylor

If only it were as simple
As that final first kiss
To continue on with life
In eternal bliss

If only she loved him
The way that he loved her
He knew she was the only one
But she still wasn't sure

If only people were always honest
I can tell you most are not
Where is the one and only truth
We continue to saught

If only everyone could see the light
That brightly shines before us
Don't be afraid to sing along
With the lively chorus

If only it were painted out
in clear black and white
The greys in the picture
make for quite a different sight

If only peace were made
Instead of combat wars
life would be much calmer
On all the Earth's shores

If only love was simple
And Fate was always kind
maybe people would be
In a different state of mind

If only the cat and dog
Could be good friends
From now on and until
The world untimely ends

If only every dream
Were able to come true
Whether it be big or small
Or even black or blue

If only I could easily take back
All the mean things I've said
And live with an unguilty conscious
Whether I'm behind or ahead

If only I could renew my soul
And forget all of my sins
And walk on to where
It ends from where it begins

If only it were easy
To admit when I was wrong
It is very hard for me
'Cause I am not that strong
