A song I wrote for an old friend.

There's a map on the wall
and it's made up of all
the finest memories
anyone has ever seen.
And the dots that connect
all the things I regret
they scream don't take us down
I must get rid of them somehow

These are the things you left behind
Wish I had more than what's kept inside
If only I could, I would turn back
Then maybe I'd save more than just
a picture and a tack.

All the voices in my head
scream what I should've done instead
but they got too mean, too loud
I just had to tune them out.
So I took one last look
then i shoved them in a book
I'll never let them out
No, they'll never hurt me now.

This is the me you pushed away
Wish I had more than what's left to say
If only I could, I would turn back
Then maybe I'd save more than just
a picture and a tack.

There's a map on the wall
and it's haunting me with all
the things I can't erase
though I run I can't escape
and to you I was remiss
still I sit and reminisce
as I trace these dotted lines
through the chaos of my mind

These are the things you left behind
Wish I had more than a coarse goodbye
If only I could, I'd still turn back
back to before, when we were so sure
we'd always be more..
than just a picture and a tack.
