Fable of the Sun

Fable of the Sun

A Poem by Shibui
"

A longer poem featuring an adorable rabbit! :D

"

A numbered collective had formed a wise plan

"We'll kidnap the sun from the sky over man

Our servants can work with a rope for the tying

Round star up above that will keep it from flying

And once it's away how our profits will soar

Enough's not enough when enough could be more!"

The thieves left at nightfall then waited till dawn

Confused at the time they'd decided upon

Over eastern horizon sun peeked out its head

In place of 'good morning' a lasso was spread

About it's great torso to drag it to dirt

With such a great force that quite many were hurt

Folk awaking in morning were well stunned to find

That though they'd slept well, still the sun would not climb

"Where's the day gone? This seems most uncommon.

And why is it snowing? It's not even autumn!"

Many then suffered and many more died

So powers that be thought to see them supplied.

They soon sent a herald who drew a great crowd

“A pittance in offering to see what we’ve found!”

He held up warm glasses that glowed in the dark

“Who wants to be first here to claim their own Spark®?

Two for a fistful, three for plus-five

How else do you all here intend to survive?"

The people surged forth and paid what was told

“You’ve saved us from blindness and bitterest cold

Let’s raise up our savior and make him our king

So he might continue the good that he brings!”

A rabbit was drawn to the clamoring cheers

Hardly believing what fell on her ears

She leapt from her bush and loudly she squeaked

“How is it you all fail to sense this man’s stink?

In just two days past with my very own eyes

I saw he and others pull light from the skies

Don't make him your king, do use your foul heads

Go capture him quickly and chain him instead!”

They looked to black skies and then to each other

Then to all their families, friends, and their lovers

Each in turn clutched hands upon glowing jars

“Such ludicrous slander belongs behind bars!”

Driven to fury, the mob had surrounded

And blocked off escape for the rabbit who sounded

“Don’t worry, my friends” herald said with a smile

“We’ll give her a place that she might think a while

On what she must say and what she must not

For the sake of herself and the sake of our lot

But all to their homes! Enjoy your new treasures

We'll see to my crowning when time is less measured!”

So it was with this that those gathered did part

With a song on their lips and great joy in their hearts

The rabbit, however, was made a new cage

Alongside the sunlight where she could pay wage

In time and in life for the crime she’d committed

Of speaking the truth to the dim and slow-witted

"But here is quite warm," she said with emotion.

"And here I am safe from madmen and their notions!"

She dug a way out, but came quickly back

After finding what food that she could for a snack

And if the men passed, her heart wouldn't miss them

"What good is an outside when sun is in prison?"
