A Poem by John the Baptist Unbaptised

Pain is freedom

For pain does not involve
seeing oneself as others see one

Pain is primitive

It is how we measure the grace of god
in the world moving all about us

It is unfair that we are born
with the desire to be loved by others

For in love we work against
the natural sentiment that drives every animal to watch over its own survival

In pain we are unrestrained

detached from the awareness of one’s future
Bound only to the present impulse
